Illiteracy

 

Today is, “International Literacy Day” on September 8; on the other hand, according to the UN report, around 700 million adults in this world are illiterate, such as they do not even know how to count numeracy or give a signature. So, they take it for granted, and without a shadow of a doubt, they are cheated. Consequently, illiterate people consider themselves as a thick.


Vocabulary: ✔️illiterate - unable to read or write ✔️numeracy - the ability to understand basic maths, count, add up etc. ✔️signature - your name written in your own characteristic handwriting style, usually to show that something has been written or agreed by you ✔️cheat - trick or deceive someone in order to take their money or valuables ✔️take (something) for granted - assume that (something) is true without checking up or finding out about it ✔️thick - (informal) stupid, unintelligent
